Our Story

NWPA Pride Alliance has been a driving force in uniting and celebrating the Queer community in Erie and Crawford Counties since 1992. Officially incorporated in 2012, the organization further solidified its commitment to the region by incorporating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Our mission is to enhance visibility, foster unity, and promote acceptance through diverse events and programs, creating an inclusive space for all in Northwest Pennsylvania. This mission has fueled the organization's growth, leading to the establishment of over 20 annual events. NWPA Pride Alliance relies on the support of community partners to bring these events to life, offering them free of charge to attendees whenever possible.
Throughout its history, NWPA Pride Alliance has played a vital role in significant moments for the LGBTQIA+ community. Notably, the organization participated in the Love Wins celebration on June 26, 2015, on the steps of the Erie County Courthouse, commemorating the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling that legalized same-sex marriage. NWPA Pride also organized a candlelight vigil at the Zone in Erie on June 12, 2016, to honor the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.
Over the years, NWPA Pride Alliance has cultivated strong relationships with the City of Erie, local businesses, community members, and area sports teams, including the Erie Seawolves and the Erie Otters.
In 2024, NWPA Pride Alliance embarked on its most ambitious Pride Fest yet, introducing Pride on the Bay at Liberty Park. While severe weather prevented the event from fully taking place, the organization remains committed to delivering an even more impactful celebration in 2025.
The organization extends its gratitude to founding members Michael Mahler and Season Crannell for their dedication to Pride, as well as to the countless board members, volunteers, community members, and supporters who have contributed to NWPA Pride Alliance's success.
